Creativity and color were abundant at the Granite Falls Library’s annual bookmark contest for kids.
This year’s theme, ‘Read me a Story” brought out the imagination of school children ages preschool to 12 years old.
This year’s first place winners were Kara Gunter in the Preschool category; Cameron Smalley-DeBeau in the kindergarten to second grade category and Lillian Hensley in the third to sixth grade category.

Honorable Mention was given to Charlotte Booke, Dakota Albin and Makena McGill.
Each contestant drew and colored a picture that reminded them of reading.
Gunter drew a young girl reading a book at bedtime.
“This is about me and the ABC book,” she said.

Smalley-DeBeau filled bookshelves with interesting books in his picture.
“This is a guy reading a book from the bookshelves as he is sitting in a chair,” he explained.
Hensley’s picture was very dramatic and told the story of a merman.

“My picture is of a merman king telling his servant, a fish, to read him a story,” Hensley said.
Each of their pictures has been printed on bookmarks that can be obtained at the library.
The panel of judges included Mayor Saleem Haroon, Wendy Beach, Jerry Laktonen,  Lynette Howard and myself.
