Each year BECU recognizes a member who exemplifies the credit union spirit of “People Helping People” by lending their time and talents to activities that make a lasting difference in our communities. This year, Kari Hanson has been selected as the BECU 2011 Member Volunteer of the Year.

Hanson volunteers with an all-girls team (ShopGirls) and a co-ed team (UrbanAutos) at Granite Falls High School. The teams were organized to design, craft, and build two competitive, fuel efficient, vehicles in a seven-month period to compete in the Shell Oil Eco Marathon in Houston, TX.

Hanson believes the best part of volunteering is surrounding herself with organizations and people who want to make a difference in young people's lives and to make our planet the best it can be with new technologies and less reliance on fossil fuels. It gives her a challenge to better herself self and be accountable for her time.

BECU is proud of the amazing volunteer spirit of Kari Hanson and the difference she has made in so many lives.
